This is a Banana Yucca plant (Yucca baccata). They are characterized by long slender leaves ending in needle-sharp spikes at the tips and white, peeling fibers along the edges. Native Indians of the Southwest used these fibers to make baskets, sandals, mats, etc. They are named for their banana-shaped fruit, which are edible. I found this in the back country of the Grand Canyon.
