The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built this structure, which sits at an elevation of 4928 feet, in 1933. Park rangers manned towers like these for the purpose of scanning the horizon for smoke until the 1960's when modern fire detection methods replaced them. Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
